The Mid-Autumn Festival is also known as Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival. It is a traditional Chinese festival celebrated by China and many East and Southeast Asian people under the influence of China. Mooncakes are Chinese pastries with varied fillings that are generally eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The roundness “yuan“ of the full moon symbolizes a complete gathering of a loving family. It is a time of joy to reunite with loved ones and to appreciate the significance of family and friends. Mooncakes are often gifted from family and loved ones.
What better way to celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival than with mooncakes from Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery in Hawaii.
Shown above is a Strawberry Azuki Bean mochi mooncake that I bought and had shipped from Sing Cheong Yuan Bakery in Honolulu. I bought a bunch of other flavors:
Lotus pig mooncake
Yellow lotus
White lotus
Chocolate strawberry
Taro
Mango
Okinawan sweet potato
Mahalo to Hawaii foodie Melissa Chang of Frolic Hawaii for putting Sing Cheong Yuan on my radar.
