Hungry after a long hike in the North Shore of Oahu, we stopped by Grass Skirt Grill in Haleiwa. Grass Skirt Grill is a great spot for fresh fish plates and sandwiches, as well as vegetarian items. We discovered this place by accident as Dee noticed an old school truck parked in front of it.
The restaurant is small, but there are a couple tables out in front. The menu features typical Hawaiian-style plate lunches – teri chicken, fish plates – burgers and sandwiches. The plate lunches are on the healthier side, using brown rice, local greens, fruits, and homemade sauces. We tried the Grilled Hebi Plate Lunch ($13) which was fantastic. The fish was fresh and topped with a basil & lemon butter sauce. The greens (Pupukea Gardens Salad Mix) were topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, onions and dressed with Dave’s papaya seed dressing. Their salad dressing is da bomb.
These are excellent takeout meals if you’re headed to the beach. Most items are under $10. The fish and shrimp plates are under $15. Cash only. Open daily from 11-6.
