When you don't trust the guidebooks because they always point you to expensive restaurants, or have questionable reviews, just ask the locals where to eat. That's what we did on our first day in Kauai. Our first time staying at the north side of the island, finding a good place to eat for breakfast sure was tough. We're so familiar with the south side of the island, and were torn about where to go for breakfast. Anyway, so we were driving through the Princeville Marketplace, searching for a specific cafe. Wound up talking to a local bruddah at the parking lot, and he pointed us to
. He gave the perfect directions - go left, drive down about 2 miles, cross da big bridge, when you see the gas station turn left, then left and go down to the Kong Lung Center.

And so our journey began...drove to the town of Kilauea. Found the cute bakery/pizza joint. Was a bit surprised when it said pizza, but I figured this stuff had to be good. And boy, did the display of breakfast items look good. I took a good amount of photos before placing my order. I wanted to get everything.
I absolutely love bagels...bialys even more. I was surprised to see such a variety of them - artichoke gorgonzola, olive tapenade, sundried tomato pesto. I changed my mind several times, but wound up buying the artichoke bialy with cream cheese on the side (wasn't sure if they were going to O.D. on the cream cheese spread) with a black coffee. My fiance (now husband) ordered a cherry danish. Oh so tasty, we wound up eating there for breakfast the next time, this time bringing our friends along. We ordered another flavor (sadly, I forgot what it was, but it was so yum-o.)

I've only eaten there for breakfast, but I'm sure their pizzas and other menu items are just as good. Let me know what you think. =)
