At the end of summer, varieties of figs appear at the markets. My favorite is Black Mission Figs. They are delicious eaten raw or grilled and dressed with a orange balsamic glaze and goat cheese.
Today, I decided to bring them to a beach picnic. Considering some may not like goat cheese, I served them raw with a mason jar of balsamic reduction. Delicious. Easy to make. Prep to plating is less than 15 minutes.
Ingredients
- A pint of Black Mission Figs, about 16 pieces
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 pinch sea salt
- Freshly ground pepper, to taste
- Fleur de Sel
Directions
- In a small saucepan bring balsamic vinegar, honey, a pinch of sea salt and freshly ground pepper to a low boil and cook down the vinegar until it becomes a thin syrup (about 10 minutes).
- Wash and cut figs in half. Place on serving plate. Sprinkle Fluer de Sel on top and drizzle with the balsamic reduction.
