Pranna, a modern Southeast Asian restaurant/lounge within the Flatiron District of NYC, is one of my go-to spots for a great cocktail and appetizers, especially during happy hour. When I was invited to sample the latest additions to Pranna’s spring menu, I was pretty excited.
The food at Pranna is inspired by Executive Chef Chai Trivedi‘s travels through the countries of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and India. These flavors of each country’s influence can be tasted through each dish.

New to Pranna’s spring menu are:
- Chicken Samosas made with turmeric, peas, sweet chili raita
- Edamame Falafel made with raita and curry flavored couscous.
- Fire Cracker Shrimp paired with cilantro and a sweet chili dipping sauce.
- Chicken Malai Kabob with yogurt, garam masala, and mint chutney.
- And my favorite, Spicy Tuna Tartare with shisho leaf, scallions, and a light soy caramel sauce.

Pranna has also introduced 3 new signature cocktails: Eastern Berry (raspberry lemongrass reduction, fresh lime juice, Velvet Falernum, Bombay Sapphire East), Breath of Life (sage leaves, fresh lemon juice, Umeshu plum wine, lemongrass syrup, Solerno, Zubrowka Bison Grass Vodka), and the Thai Gave (agave nectar, ginger juice, lime juice, fresh pineapple juice, Milagro Tequila). Also available is one of my favorite refreshing cocktails, the Pranna Sutra, which is made with muddled red seedless grapes, fresh lemon juice, white wine and Ketel One vodka. It still tastes as delicious as the first time I’ve tried it, about 4 years ago.

My favorites after sampling all the fantastic treats: Tuna Tartare and their classic, Pranna Sutra. The tuna tartare had thin slices of fresh tuna perfectly seasoned with a light soy caramel sauce. One spoonful will have you hooked. The Pranna Sutra is a wonderful, refreshing cocktail. Smooth and slightly fruity, it’ll have you ordering a few for the night.
Best of all, you can order these items during Happy Hour, which runs from 4-8pm daily so stop by for a signature cocktail and appetizer, or two. Pranna offers special prices for their drinks, so it’ll be worthwhile to try them all.
