The Melting Pot of Darien, a fondue restaurant, is taking fondue fans on a flavorful, patriotic culinary road trip with a new limited-time menu called Big Night Out America. This four-course menu features ingredients and brands from across the country. They also have a choice of two four-course pairing flights: the American Craft Beer or the American Wine pairing flight.
In the American Craft Beer flight, $12, are four six ounce pours of the following:
- Samuel Adams Boston Lager
- Sierra Nevada Pale Ale
- Stone IPA
- Rogue Chocolate Stout
The American Wine pairing flight, $14, also has four pours, three ounces each:
- Chateau St. Michelle Pinot Gris
- Murphy Goode Chardonnay
- Francis Coppola Claret
- Noble Vines 337 Cabernet Sauvignon
Both are excellent choices and complement every course in this menu.
On to the food…
The first course takes you to Boston with the Boston Lager Cheddar Cheese Fondue. The server heats up a small cup of Samuel Adams Boston Lager® in the fondue pot and whisks in an 80/20 blend of cheddar and emmenthaler cheeses and a mix of Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon, onion, Dijon mustard, Tabasco® and scallions. Items available for dipping include sliced french bread, onion and rosemary bread, carrots, cauliflower and broccoli, all sliced into bite size servings.
Next, the road trip heads to the Midwest for the Wisconsin Wedge Salad, a crisp iceberg wedge accompanied by sliced Roma tomatoes, Emmi Roth USA gorgonzola, Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon and peppercorn ranch dressing.
The entrée course features a variety of fresh meats, seafood and pasta with influences from various regions like Chesapeake Bay with Old Bay® shrimp. Other highlights include Buffalo chicken, Memphis-style barbecue pork tenderloin, seasoned choice Angus sirloin and wild mushroom sacchetti pasta. We selected the Fondue Fusion and enhanced it with one of The Melting Pot’s Entrée Cooking Styles. For an additional $6, we added the Mojo, a Caribbean-inspired bouillon featuring fresh-garlic and citrus flavors. The spice didn’t overpower the dish, but added the just right amount of heat to the meats.
Be sure to save room for dessert with a take on the timeless American classic peanut butter and jelly known as Chocolate Wildberry Crunch Fondue, made with milk chocolate, crunchy peanut butter and a purée of blackberries, raspberries and strawberries. My favorite dippers were the bananas, marshmallows and the Krispies, which I ordered a second batch of.
Like my previous dining experiences at The Melting Pot, the food and service were great. I recommend this restaurant for everyone – from couples, to families, or just hanging out with friends (Thursday nights are Ladies’ Nights).
