Downtown Stamford’s French Farmers Market made its 2011 debut on Spring Street, in the parking lot across from Bar Rosso and Volta Gelateria Creperia (opening this month).
There were 7 vendors on the debut day selling the fresh picked fruits and vegetables, flowers, baked goods and more. Here’s a rundown of some of the vendors you should check out:
Meredith’s Bread, 419 Rt 28, Kingston, NY 12401
Since 1987, Meredith’s Bread has been baking delicious breads, pies, muffins, and jams. They’ve been a vendor at the farmers market for the past 3 years. I sampled their whole wheat bread with strawberry rhubarb jam. A new addition to the bread selection is the Onion Cheese Bread. For $5, you get a 28 oz (1.75 lbs) of dense bread topped, and stuffed with onions and cheddar cheese.
Dream Desserts (@dreamdessertbar) sells all natural, gluten free desserts: Peanut Butter Chocolat, Luscious Lemon, Pecan Clasique, and Banana Nuvo. All are decadent, and I’ll say my favorite is the lemon bar.
My favorite treats are the market were the pickles and olives from a vendor from New Jersey. What caught my eye was a barrel of Horseradish pickles, which I’ve never tried before. Not as spicy as I thought it would be, I wound up buying a pint for $5 (and I’m snacking on them now). If you’re not a fan of horseradish, they’ve got the usual pickle varieties: Kosher dill, half sour, full sour, and hot pickles, as well as their own Giardiniere. Aside from pickles, they sell a variety of olives, sundried tomatoes and olive oil. The kalamata olives are excellent.
