BLT Focaccia. Sounds good, right? That was one of the first things I saw when I entered the new Whole Foods Market in Fairfield, CT, which opened on June 3rd. This is the 4th location in the state, and is also the largest.
I normally buy my groceries at the Whole Foods in White Plains, Darien, or even NYC. At first I thought the location on Bowery Street was the best, but I might change my mind and say the one in Fairfield is. Why? The same features apply – free samples of anything you want to try, friendly staff, a great selection of products, and a fine selection of beer. But what makes this location standout are the new things:
- A filling station for vinegar, honey, agave, and liquid aminos (shown below). This is very convenient if you only need 1/2 cup of an ingredient – just grab an empty bottle and fill it up with as much as you need and pay by the pound.
- A large bulk foods section: Stock up on beans and other legumes.
- Kalustyan’s spices – a display of various spices and mixes including star anise, and even fajita mix
- Dried mushrooms and peppers
- Gelato bar – sample delicious gelato from Cold Fusion of Walpole, MA.
