I discovered Sigmund Pretzelshop (Twitter handle: @SigmundPretzel) at Madison Square Eats, and I’m glad I’ve found a place that makes the perfect pretzel – the perfect German-style pretzel. When I walked by their kiosk, I thought of Seinfeld and his quote “These pretzels are making me thirsty…” No, you won’t get too thirsty after eating these pretzels – they’re lightly salted, and not too doughy like the usual pretzels sold at NYC street carts. And unlike the NYC street cart pretzel, Sigmund also makes various flavors. To name a few:
- regular salted
- mini seeded (sesame, poppy, sunflower, pumpkin)
- mini garlic parsley
- mini jalapeno cheddar
At the Lower East Side location, you can also get dips, like whipped butter, wholegrain mustard, or honey mustard. I’m also dying to try their sandwiches on pretzel rolls for $7.
Sigmund’s pretzels are made in batches by hand, so if you want to place a bulk order (more than 20 pretzels), you should call in advance and place an order for pickup at their LES location or delivery.
