Amis Trattoria offers traditional and authentic Italian cuisine inspired by the rustic cooking of Rome. Amis is part of the critically acclaimed Vetri Family Restaurant Group. Under Executive Chef Brad Spence, Amis captures the art of Italian home cooking, serving both traditional and contemporary offerings from the restaurant’s open kitchen.
The Drinks
Amis’s beverage program includes wine available by the glass and bottle, Italian craft beers, and creative cocktails. Be sure to check out their featured drink specials. When we stopped by for dinner, I enjoyed a glass of a full-bodied Barolo from Ascheri while Jay sipped a few cocktails, including the Amis Knees, a delicious mix of bourbon, fresh lemon, and house made lavender-honey simple syrup.
The barrel-aged cocktail flight is an excellent deal. For $16, you can sample 4 1.5 oz cocktails – Bulleit Rye Manhattan, Sicilian Manhattan, Old Forester Boulevardier, and a Plymouth Gin Negroni.
The Food
From Italian classics to new interpretations, the menu at Amis has something for everyone with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. We highly recommend starting with an Antipasto Plate (prosciutto, pecorino sardo, castelvetrano olives, roasted peppers), Grilled octopus with green harissa, or Sal’s old school meatballs served with a delicious tomato and potato mash.
The pasta is made in house and it’ll be hard making a decision on what to get. We loved the classic, creamy Tonnarelli “cacio e pepe” and the hearty and savory Rigatoni Bolognese. They also have a Linguine dish with crab, parsley, and chili flakes.
For the main course, we highly recommend ordering their most popular dish, the Pork Chop Parmigiana or Veal Chop with pumpkin caponata along with a side of Eggplant Chips with lavender honey, garrotxa cheese, which you could also order as an appetizer. The Fried Brussels Sprouts with lemon is also a good choice.
Amis also has a kids menu featuring flatbread pizza, spaghetti with meatballs, grilled chicken over polenta, and grilled salmon with quinoa.
Save room for dessert. The Olive Oil Cake with marmalade is a perfect way to end your dinner. They also have Tiramisu and Mom-Mom’s Rice Pudding which we look forward to trying during our next visit.
Amis has a weekday happy hour from 4 to 6 which specially priced drinks and 2 for $5 meatballs.
We have nothing but good things to say about Amis, our new favorite Italian restaurant in Westport.
