Donut Crazy opened up in Westport at the Saugatuck train station last week. Once you step foot inside the shop, you’ll be greeted with the aroma of freshly made donuts and brewed organic Shearwater Coffee. While it may already by on your mind, the large “Let’s Eat Donuts!” and pictures of donuts will remind you of what you must do when you’re there.
On display are its typical selection of “Dailies” and “Crazies.”
The “Dailies” cost $1.95 each. The menu features 25 regulars, including Birthday Cake (glazed cake donut topped with buttercream frosting and rainbow sprinkles), Strawberry Frosted Sprinkle (raised yeast ring donut with strawberry icing and sprinkles), and my favorite, the Apple Crumby (raised yeast shell, filled with apple filling, coated in fresh donut crumble).
The “Crazies” cost $3.25 each, and features some crazy creations, and seasonal flavors. I haven’t tried them yet, but the Kookie Monster (blue and vanilla icing and topped with crushed chocolate chip cookies) and Dough Boy (raised yeast ring filled with an eggless cookie dough, dipped half in milk chocolate, topped with more cookie dough and powdered sugar) have caught my eye when I visited.
In addition to donuts and coffee, the store offers breakfast sandwiches and pastries. The refrigerator case is stocked with prepared food from Nom-eez (including Vietnamese pho) and salads and entrees from Match in South Norwalk. I forgot my lunch at home, so I grabbed a Caesar Chicken Salad, and it was delicious!
