We discovered Barracuda Grill from a Google search while in Bermuda. Conveniently located in the city of Hamilton, the contemporary restaurant offers a good selection of seafood dishes using fresh local fish, as well as imports, depending on the season. You may not see it right away, but you’ll notice it above Hog Penny.
To start off the meal, we were served an amuse bouche – a taste of what the chef had to offer – salmon and wakame served over crostini. The teaser didn’t look appealing, but was delicious – salty flavors from the seaweed and a hint of smokiness from the salmon with added texture from the crostini.
For our entrees I had the Grilled Bermuda Rockfish (shown top) cooked with saffron and topped with lobster butter and caramelized shallots atop a bed of delicious sage butternut puree, farro, baby leeks, and pickled radish, while Jay enjoyed the Grilled Snapper Fillet with bacalao brandade, sautéed kale, chorizo and black olive and piri piri sauces. The highlight of the dish was the bacalao brandade, a puree of cod, milk and potatoes formed into small cakes. While both were delicious, it would have been a better if the rockfish was paired with the bacalao. Our waitress later informed us that this request could be made. We’ll make note of that for our next trip to the island.
We decided to skip dessert since the main course and a chilled bottle of Albariño was filling. Overall, good food, despite not trying much of their menu.<
Menu prices - Soups & Salads: $9-$13, Appetizers: $13-$21, Main Courses: $28-$45.
