Hana Tokyo at The Brick Walk in Fairfield offers diners a selection of cold and hot appetizers, sushi and maki rolls, as well as an entertaining hibachi meal. After a long day in NYC, I joined several local food bloggers for dinner at Hana Tokyo. After a short walk from the train station, I entered the restaurant and was greeted by the friendly staff who guided me to the bar area where we enjoyed tasty appetizers, from sushi rolls, to baked mussels, to the unexpected — grilled baby octopus.
Of the many specialty rolls available on the menu, we tried the Volcano Roll made with crab meat, avocado and cucumber inside and tuna, salmon and avocado outside. It was a great combination of flavors.
At the hibachi grill table, we enjoyed a bottle of cold sake as we watched the chef demonstrate his skills in flipping utensils, making an onion volcano, and tossing food into the air, and eventually into diners’ mouths. The sake we drank was Bunraku Nihonjin no Wasuremono: Forgotten Japanese Spirit, a dry and rich tasting sake that paired well with our meal.
We were served hibachi classics – chicken, filet mignon, shrimp, and lobster – along with fried rice, noodles, and sauteed vegetables. All were delicious, and well-seasoned (and not salty, as what I expected). My favorites were the tender filet cooked medium and the lobster.
Dinner ended with a delicious selection of ice cream – from coconut to green tea. Another treat we tried was their fried ice cream.
Hana Tokyo is great for groups, as well as kids. We heard plenty of oohs and ahs, and wows, from kids sitting at the neighboring tables.
