Basso Molise Imports is a family-run business based out of Harrison, NY. They sell Italian gourmet foods, including Bruno Mottillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil, which is produced in Larino (CB) Italy. The farm has approximately four hectares of specialized olive groves, where there are 600 trees of the Gentile di Larino olive variety. The olives are handpicked then crushed, cold extracted, bottled and labeled on site. Producing only 8,500 liters per year Bruno Mottillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil is a true artisan product.
We sampled a few of Basso Molise’s olive oil products including their new fused olive oils, which I used to cook a variety of dishes.
- Rosemary & Lemon was earthy and aromatic and was best used when cooking meats like poultry and pork.
- Garlic practically paired well with anything. This flavor was also handy when, shockingly, I didn’t have any fresh garlic available for cooking.
- The basil-infused olive oil was a fragrant, fresh tasting olive oil that was best in a Caprese salad – just drizzle the oil over slices of mozzarella and tomato. Fresh basil is optional in this case because the oil captured the essence of the herb.
I used the Bruno Mottillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil to cook a variety of pasta dishes – from penne in garlic and oil to ravioli with Pecorino and peas.
Bruno Mottillo Extra Virgin Olive Oil can be purchased online at bassomoliseimports.com. Prices start at $26.95 for a 500ml bottle.
