Fairfield County’s got a lot of great pizza joints. Now, let’s add one more to the list: Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza in Darien.
We stopped by the second day of their opening. Fortunately we missed the crowd cuz it was packed. Initially we were told we had a 15 minute wait, but that turned into 2. Lucky us. Didn’t matter because our eyes were glued to the many flat screen tvs set up around the restaurant. Boxing or basketball? We went to the section that had both on.

We tried a small order of Coal Oven Roasted Chicken Wings ($9.50 for 10 pieces) which is served on 2 pieces of Foccacia bread and topped with plenty grilled onions. We’ve never had wings like this before. You can actually taste the seasonings, particularly the rosemary, in the meat. and these aren’t small wings either. We highly recommend them.

Off the Specialty Pizza menu, we ordered the Paul & Young Ron, made with Meatballs, Sausage, Hot or Sweet Peppers & Ricotta Cheese. Our friendly waiter ordered ours with both hot and sweet peppers because we couldn’t decide which to get.
Alas the pizza came, hot out of the oven, and well-done, as how it says above the coal oven area. With my knife and fork ready, I cut into my slice. Mmm, I couldn’t help but saying that out loud. The stingers added the right amount of heat while the savory meats and ricotta chunks made a happy dance in my mouth. “Now that’s a good pizza,” I said before I chugged my ice cold glass of Blue Point, one of the many beers available by the bottle.
We couldn’t finish our small pie, but it didn’t go to waste. The leftovers tastes great the next day. Just broil ’em for a couple minutes on a rack and you’re all set.
We’ll be back.
Anthony’s has locations in White Plains, NY and Ramsey, NJ, in addition to its many restaurants in Florida and Pennsylvania.
Favor: Tell the manager, Lexie, to get HBO. She says if she gets enough requests, she might be able to get HBO Sports on, in addition to the basic cable channels.
