The Hogan |
Pizzeria Rosso is a small pizzeria in Norwalk run by former Executive Chef Pasquale Pascarella of The Saltwater Grille in Stamford. Since April, he’s been preparing Neapolitan pizza, as well as panini, pasta dishes, and entrees.
Looking at the chalkboard menu, it was hard to decide what kind of pizza to get. My eyes were fixated on the Old World style from Margherita, Quattro Formaggi, to Clams Casino. And then there was the New World: The Antimo (marinara, fresh tomato, garlic, oregano) and The Pasquale (fresh tomato, oregano, smoked mozzarella, egg) looked like winners.
Finally we narrowed it down to the New World Artisan Pizza pie dubbed The Hogan, a pie made with prosciutto, fig, arugula, and ricotta, priced at $14 for a 12″ pie, $18 for a 16″ pie. The crust was thick on the outside and really thin in the center (my kinda pizza). The toppings were a great combination: salty proscuitto, sweet figs, creamy ricotta, and peppery arugula. The tomato sauce was also very delicious – it has to be if it’s cooked for five hours. Thank goodness we got a large pie – the piggy in me wound up eating 3 slices, leaving no room left for dessert.
What’s underneath the layer of arugula – ricotta cheese and slices of fig and prosciutto |
Next time, I’ll try something from the Old World. I’ll be back for sure.
