SoNo Baking Company & Café (Twitter handle: @SoNoBakingCo) is a neighborhood gem in South Norwalk, CT, serving beautiful pastries and breads in a renovated 3,600 sq. ft. former warehouse. SoNo Baking Co. is great for breakfast and brunch, as well as lunch based on the nice selection of sandwiches they have on their menu.
The café has a decent dining area – about 10 or so tables, and stools at the counter where you can enjoy your meal and watch the bakers prepare their confections. We dropped by for Sunday brunch to try out their egg platters, with their specialty coffee and got a table with no problem.
Parisian Omelette with homefries, fresh fruit, and toast |
I tried the Parisian omelette served with homefries, fresh fruit and toast for $8.50. The Parisian omelette is made with baked ham, Swiss cheese, and chives. Again, I forgot to request to have my omelette cooked well done, but they cooked it perfectly. The omelette was flavorful, and had a hefty serving of ham and cheese in it. The homefries were excellent – perfectly cooked and had an out-of-this-world seasoning on it – I can’t pinpoint what it was made with, but definitely worth a try. The fruit salad was diced green apples and cantaloupe – a nice touch to my breakfast platter. The slices of toast were great. It didn’t even need butter. I joked with my husband to say my birds would even want to eat it because of all the seeds in it – poppy seeds, millet and more.
My husband ordered the Eggs over easy with bacon, homefries, fresh fruit & toast for $7.75. That was an excellent meal as well, even better would probably be the SoNo Egg Sandwich: Scrambled Eggs on Croissant, Applewood Smoked Bacon & Cheddar Cheese for $5.75.

As a treat, we tried the Apple Almond Tart which was excellent – buttery pastry, perfectly cooked slices of apple, and crunchy toasted almonds sprinkled with powdered sugar on top. Enough to split with someone else, and perfect with their specialty coffee.

Other things on my checklist to try off their dessert menu: Flourless chocolate cake, Tiramisu, and the Cheesecake. Sorry, no sugar-free cakes are served here (we asked).
