Albert Cuyp Market is a street market in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on the Albert Cuypstraat between Ferdinand Bolstraat and Van Woustraat, in the “Oud-Zuid” district of the city (a couple blocks away from the Heineken Experience). Albert Cuyp Market, the largest European market, is also home to PC Stroopstraat, makers of fresh stroopwafels.
Stroopwafels (English translation: syrup waffle) are waffles made from two thin layers of batter glued together with a caramel-like syrup. You can get a King Size stroopwafel made to order for 1,50€ or a Chocolate King Size stroopwafel for 2€.
I only tried the regular stroopwafel, but wow – having a freshly made wafel is so much better than the prepackaged stuff I’ve been snacking on. Other places around Amsterdam also sell warm stroopwafels, but the wafels are premade and then heated. So if you’re in the area, be sure to stop by and get one.
