Oh Bermuda, how I miss the clear cerulean skies, turquoise waters, pink sand beaches, glasses of Dark and Stormy, and the cuisine. While we were only on the island for less than a week, we did not get a chance to try many of the food establishments because we were stayed in our comfort zone and returned back to the restaurants we enjoyed dining at. One restaurant we enjoyed eating at was Marcus’ by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson.
Since the previous pop-up restaurant was such a success, Chef Marcus opened Marcus’ at the newly renovated Hamilton Princess at the end of May. The restaurant has a beautiful interior with a cool bar and exposed kitchen. There is a wraparound terrace so you can dine alfresco watching the ships sail by or catch a glimpse of the sunset.

Marcus’ menu focuses Caribbean-inspired cuisine with a nod to some of the fresh ingredients and classic dishes that you find on Bermuda. On the menu, executed by Executive Chef Leonardo Marino, features dishes to satisfy the vegetarians, seafood lovers, and carnivores.

Aunt Bonita’s Crab and Codfish Cake
Aunt Bonita’s Crab and Codfish Cake with charred mango salsa, bacon, salsa verde, $20, was delicious. I loved the charred mango salsa and bacon – a little bit of sweet and savory to go with the moist fish cake. The salsa verde wasn’t needed as the salsa made the dish.
Catch of the Day: Wahoo
For our main course, we tried the Catch of the Day: Wahoo served with Wadson’s Farm ratatouille and grilled lime, $36. We ate wahoo almost every day and I loved the way the chef prepared this dish. The flavors of the tapenade paired well with the ratatouille. More please.
Blackened Fish and Grits
Jay ordered the Blackened Fish and Grits with pepper jam and braised fennel, $38. The fish used in this dish was rockfish, a local grouper. The fish was seasoned well and cooked to perfection, still leaving it moist and flaky. The grits were delicious but we wished there was more of it to enjoy with the fish.
Since there was no kids menu, we ordered the Mighty Mac and Cheese made with cheddar and Parmesan cheese off the side menu for our little foodie. We’ve She ate it nearly every day while we basked in the sun at the newly opened Princess Beach Club on the south shore.

For dessert, we indulged in Rum Cake with salted caramel sauce and vanilla ice cream, $12. Each time I dug my fork into the cake to slice it, rum just oozed out of it. Think of it like a sponge soaking up delicious rum. Definitely try this dessert. You might get a little buzz after consumption.

Overall, we had a great experience at Marcus’. We arrived early (at opening) since the restaurant was booked for the evening. Food was on the pricey side, but comparable to other restaurants in the city of Hamilton. The quality of the food is excellent, but we left hungry.
Marcus’ is open daily for dinner (Sunday – Wednesday from 5:30 pm – 10 pm, Thursday – Saturday 5:30 pm – 11 pm). Reservations are recommended. Limited high chairs are available. No kids menu, but you can ask the server for kid friendly recommendations.
