Last weekend we attended the inaugural Big Brew New York Beer Festival, which allowed beer aficionados to taste over 350 craft beers and food. Since we were VIP ticket holders, we had an extra hour of tasting and had a chance to taste another 25+ special brews. We also tried a few beer-infused items designed & prepared by Chef Anthony Goncalves of 42 The Restaurant (at the Ritz-Carlton, Westchester):
- Beer battered cod
- Beer braised lamb arancini (Parmesan and preserved lemon)
- IPA pickled carrot salad over roasted and dehydrated carrot
- Oatmeal Stout glazed apple fritter
The most interesting taste of the night: Ballast Point Brewing’s Habanero Sculpin. The tastings notes say “hints of apricot, peach, mango and lemon flavors with a late habañero bite.” One sip and we were good.
There are plans for another event this September. We’re hoping there will be more food. Shall we suggest wings from Candlelight Inn?
We’re looking forward to it. And next time, we’ll plan out our kiosk stops.
