Glacier BrewHouse is a great restaurant in Downtown Anchorage for the whole family. The interior has a nice lodge, homey feel. The staff members are nice. The food is great. And the beer is awesome.
Glacier BrewHouse brews their own beer. Notable on the list are:
Imperial Blonde
Slightly malty, creamy, and smooth. A half pound of honey per gallon is used to attain the high yet seductive alcohol level (9% ABV)
Maker’s Mark Black Rye Bock
Aged six months in Maker’s Mark barrels, this dark lager combined the characteristics of three winter beer styles. It has a distinctive bitter chocolate palate and black color reminiscent of black beer. The spiciness from the rye malt shines through the flavor. The high alcohol balanced with malty sweetness rounds out this bock. (6.91% ABV)
A pint of beer will run you $5.95. You can also enjoy BrewHouse beers to go in growlers, personal Cornelius kegs, or in five gallon kegs.
On the food menu are typical bar foods, and Alaskan fare. I opted for a beer quesadilla for starters, which was decent. The seafood chowder is another great choice – very filling. But the King Crab Legs were excellent. For $41, you get about 1 pound of legs and steamed vegetables on the side; enough to share with another person.
If you’re in the area, do stop on by. This place was one of my favorites in Anchorage.
