My favorite local steakhouse, although it’s a chain, is The Capital Grille. Whenever Stamford Restaurant Week happens, I make sure I make reservations here. Why? From Sunday, February 27 through Sunday, March 13, you can score a great deal for a 3-course lunch for $20.11 or dinner for $30.11. Yes, including weekends (I called to double check).
The Capital Grille’s dinner menu is:
We ordered the field greens and clam chowder for starters. The clam chowder was served in a small cup filled with chunks of potato and clams. Although heavy cream is the base for the chowder, it wasn’t heavy at all.
The filet mignon was my pick while my husband ordered the sirloin. Both dishes were delicious, but the Kona crusted sirloin was definitely better choice, especially with the shallot butter sauce it was served with.
The mashed potatoes were great – not too buttery, and a decent sized portion (about half of what you’d normally get off the regular menu). The creamed spinach is also on the lighter side, unlike many other steakhouses that douse it up in cream. The spinach not, for the lack of a better term, mushy – you can actually hear a “crunch” when you bite into it.
Desserts – you can’t go wrong with any of them, but the Crème brulée is my favorite. I always order this because it’s made perfectly, with the nice crisp caramelized top. The flourless chocolate espresso cake was good, would be better for a chocolate lover.
Like any other dining experience I’ve had at The Capital Grille, I walked away satisfied, with the food and service. I highly recommend it. If you are in town, try to make reservations and take advantage of the restaurant week specials. You can view their menu here.
If you’re not around for restaurant week, I highly recommend ordering the French Onion Soup, Lamb Chops, and Lobster Mac & Cheese – you’ll thank me later.
