At this location you can buy pre-packaged confections – chocolate malt balls, cornflakes, popcorn, and other chocolate treats. Got some time? Grab at a seat at the hot cocoa bar and watch your barista whip up a perfect cup of hot chocolate for you. There are also 3 tables in the small store, so you can sit and watch people scurry along the concourse to get to their final destination.
At the counter, you can choose from a wide selection of chocolate bon bons sold by the piece, about $1.60 each. I picked only 4 – chocolate peanut butter, peanut brittle, hazelnut, and a Champagne kiss made with Taittinger (one of my favorite brands of champagne).
The chocolate chip cookie was delicious – a little buttery for my liking, but the chocolate makes up for it. Once you bite into the cookie, the chocolate just melts in your mouth. Looking back at my cookie – it looked like thin layers of cookie dough ‘sandwiching’ a savory layer of milk chocolate.
I also bought an 18 oz. tin of Classic Hot Chocolate, made with real chocolate, for $18. I love real hot chocolate. I’ve gotta see which is better – Williams Sonoma’s Hot Chocolate shavings, Chocopologie’s hot cocoa, or Jacques Torres.
If you’re heading there this weekend, bring cash. Their DSL connection and credit card machine have not been set up. I realized that when the cashier rang up my items. Gulp. Thankfully I had the $35 on hand to cover the cost of all my goodies.
Not in NYC? Have no fear – you can purchase Jacques Torres goodies on his website: www.mrchocolate.com.
