Kono’s – Ono Breakfast in the North Shore, Oahu

Kono's Haleiwa

Kono's Haleiwa

Before hitting the Kealia Trail on the North Shore of Oahu, we stopped by Kono’s Restaurant in Haleiwa for a quick breakfast. Kono’s is a great local spot that serves great food in a casual atmosphere. You’ll find both locals and tourists here.

Counter at Kono’s

As you enter the restaurant, you’ll see the menu written on a huge blackboard behind the counter. It may look overwhelming because there’s so many delicious items to try. If you like breakfast wraps, try one of their six Breakfast Bombers, a warm tortilla filled with seasoned Yukon gold potatoes, scrambled eggs, jack and cheddar cheese inside. Served with house salsa, you’ve got a lot to choose from:

Kalua Pig Breakfast Bomber

The “Haleiwa” was squealing my name. The Kalua Pig was smokey and delicious. I’ve never had it in a burrito, and I’m glad I tried it. Maybe one day I’ll try making it at home since they’ve posted their Kalua Pig recipe on their website.

Breakfast Slider Trio

For $10, you can get a Breakfast Slider Trio – Three buttermilk biscuit sliders with scrambled eggs, cheese, and one of each meat: portuguese sausage, bacon, kalua pig. Ono. No further explanation needed.

Breakfast Bomber and Breakfast Slider Trio

Wash down your breakfast with their House POG (Passion, Orange, Guava juice) or an iced local coffee. Their POG is pretty good – it isn’t sweet and it’s quite refreshing.

Also offered are sandwiches, salads, wraps and milkshakes. Aside from food, you can get some Kono’s swag and rubs.
