On Saturday, May 3rd at 2.30pm, Barcelona Greenwich will hold a wine class focused on Alsace and Loire. For $30/person (all-inclusive), students can gain in depth knowledge of the gastronomy, terroir, varietals and wine-making styles of Alsace and the Loire Valley. Both of these regions produce some of France’s most notable white wines (and a few reds as well!) and they are known for being truly at the mercy of their terroir. This class will explore the many notable varietals that are exceptional in Loire and Alsace, as well as the terroir and a tasting of great value wines from both regions.
What is wine class at Barcelona like?
The style of these wine courses is designed for the beginner looking to think like a professional, or an enthusiast looking to gain more knowledge and wine tasting experience. No one is born with the ability to decipher particular aromas and flavors in wine – it can only come with lots of practice, and students of these wine courses will gain great training in palate development. They will discuss topics beyond the typical “abc’s,” often focusing on how to describe and understand unfamiliar wines and regions. Students of the wine class will gain experience in wine terminology, wine tasting and evaluation, wine-making techniques and styles, regions of the world, effects of climate and weather on vineyards, and over-all , interesting facts and knowledge about the wines of the world.
Typical Wine Class Schedule – 1 ½ – 2 hours in length.
2:30pm – Class starts promptly. Begin lecture, usually 30-45 minutes in length
3:15pm – wine tasting of 7-10 wines, corresponding to subject of class
4:30pm (approximately) – dismiss
