Eclectic Luncheonette and Caterer Now Open in New Canaan, CT

If you drive down Vitti Street in New Canaan, you’ll notice a building with a periwinkle exterior. That’s the home of the new luncheonette called Eclectic which opened this past Tuesday. The eatery was created by Eclectic chef and owner Robert Milano who takes popular recipes and recreates them for on-the-go convenience. You can take the food to go, or dine in the 22-seat space.

South Pacific salad

On the menu are a selection of salads, sandwiches and soufflés. You won’t find the typical chicken caasar salad on the menu, but creations with influences from around the world. The S.O.B. (South of the Border) is a chopped salad with tortilla strips and a mango chipotle vinagrette. The Colonel’s Wife features walnut honey mustard chicken salad. The South Pacific salad is made with mixed field greens, cucumber, julienned carrots, peppers, dried pineapples and bananas, and crispy chow mien noodles with a peanut cilantro vinaigrette.

French Apple Roast Turkey

Eclectic’s meats are roasted in-house daily – From the perfectly juicy brined turkey breast used in the French Apple Turkey Breast Melt and Cherry Eclectic Salad to the tender Osscobucco used in two delicious melts. Speaking of melts, the French Apple Turkey is one of Electic’s popular sandwiches made with white Vermont cheddar, apple/honey sautéed onions on butter grilled country toast.

Beef Ossobucco Honey Truffle Melt

The Beef Ossobuco Honey Truffle is uses the right amount of honey truffle sauce to dress tender braised beef shank and Havarti cheese. Each bite is savory and the liquid gold doesn’t overpower the sandwich. If truffle isn’t your thing, try the version made with Jalapeño Raspberry BBQ sauce.

B.P.B.

Peanut butter lovers must try the B.P.B. A rich and comforting trifecta of fresh and creamy banana butter, crisp bacon and peanut butter served hot on butter grilled country toast.

Eclectic’s Soufflé de mais (Corn Soufflés) are excellent. There are three kinds available, made with your choice of roasted in house meats and matching sauce. We tried the Pulled Pork Soufflé made with slow roasted seasoned pulled pork shoulder, topped with their sweet and spicy pepper aioli. In each bite are sweet corn kernels and tender pork.

All melts and soufflés come with a choice of tomato bisque, Southern sweet potato hash browns, or a small house salad. We recommend trying the rich and creamy tomato bisque.

For dinner, Eclectic has a family dinner take-out menu which features a variety of salads, entrees and sides. We’re eyeing the Breaded Sole with Garlic Cilantro Tartar Sauce and Cherry Chutney Glazed Ham with Gorgonzola.

At the time of writing, Eclectic has been open for under a week and has customers who have returned 2-3 days in a row. If you’re in town, stop by and let us know what you think.
