Near Norwalk Hospital, tucked away off the main streets is a small restaurant called Blue Cactus Grill . Owner Vic Amereno has over 25 years in the food and hospitality industry. He opened this spot 2 years ago serving American food with a Southern twist. On the menu are burgers, sandwiches, wraps, and salads.
We tried the “Five Napkin Burger,” a delicious burger made with meat from Danbury’s Omaha Beef Company, bacon, Chipotle BBQ sauce, melted Cheddar and crispy onion rings nestled in a soft homemade bun. Sounds good. Tastes great!

Their Philly Cheesesteaks are also excellent. You can either get it with fresh top round or chicken. Sticking with the classics, we tried the Traditional Cheesesteak with Provolone. Each bite was savory and packed with flavor. I’m a big fan of the meat: tender and juicy. Definitely the best cheesesteak in Norwalk. Another tasty item is the Cactus Slaw which comes with the sandwich. The slaw is a refreshing side made with a cilantro lime vinaigrette.

Now you can’t just have a sandwich without fries. Blue Cactus Grill serves their homemade fries plain or with various toppings, like their homemade chili or cheese. The fries are crispy and well seasoned. On my list for our next visit: Fuego Fries, made with chili, cheese, onion and chopped jalapeño.
Be sure to save room for dessert and try their Banana Pudding, packed with Nilla wafter and slices of banana. Theirs is the best banana pudding we’ve ever had.
