White Plains, NY: Rooster’s Market

Rooster’s Market is a small neighborhood market in White Plains that sells groceries, and some of the best sandwiches in Westchester County. At the back of the store is a deli counter and several blackboards filled with the various sandwiches they make for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

For breakfast, Rooster’s serves the usual egg sandwiches, omelettes, and platters. My usual is A “Roo” is a satisfying sandwich of 2 eggs, bacon and cheese for $3.25.

Specialty sandwiches at Rooster’s Market are available on bread or roll for $6, and on a wedge for $7. They’ve got many delicious combinations, so it may be tough to decide. Grab a menu before going on queue, or let the regulars go ahead of you.

Our favorite sandwiches are The Belly Buster, made with layers of roast beef, turkey, swiss, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo or mustard, and the Rooster’s Grill, grilled chicken breast, roasted peppers, melted provolone and pesto mayo. Oh, did I mention the size of the sandwich – one half of a wedge is enough for 1 person, so you can save the other half for later, or share it with your lunch buddy.

Runner up: The Nooche – chicken cutlet, proscuitto, provolone, roasted peppers, lettuce, and a balsamic spread.

The Belly Buster – perfect name for this big sandwich
The Nooche

A sandwich is not complete without a side. Yeah, you can get a bag of chips, but I prefer a deli salad. And what I usually get is either a small portion of macaroni or potato salad. At Rooster’s Market, the macaroni salad is okay. I prefer their potato salad.
