Kneads opened up in the Saugatuck section of Westport in September in the same complex as Fleishers Craft Butchery and Match Burger Lobster, occupying the former Garelick and Herbs location.
Kneads is a small family run bakery, cafe, and flour mill featuring freshly milled local flour using their New American Stone Mill. They produce 100% whole grain organic flour which can be found in their unique selection of fresh artisan breads and pastries baked on site daily.
Their cafe offers a quick, sit down service, as well as to-go breakfast and lunch options, served alongside Irving Farm Coffee and In Pursuit of Tea.
Since they opened, we’ve visited several times trying close to almost every baked item on the menu – croissants, baguettes, cookies and other pasties. While we love getting our carb fix with their breads, we often order their delicious breakfast sandwiches.
Our favorite breakfast creations are the Fleishers Cottage Bacon and Egg Sandwich, made with local cheddar, crispy shallots and whole grain mustard on a croissant, and the Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Sandwich. Their SEC is fantastic. Nestled between a whole wheat milk bun is a juicy sausage patty, a crispy hash brown, and perfectly fried egg dressed with Jimmy Nardello pepper jelly and thinly sliced scallions. Sweet, savory, delicious. I eat this sandwich once a week. Try it, and let me know what you think.
