There are close to 100 restaurants and bars in the Flatiron District of NYC, maybe a couple dozen of them have outdoor seating. Here’s a list of my favorite places to dine al fresco.
Markt
Markt is my favorite Belgian restaurant in NYC. Located on the corner of 21st Street and Sixth Avenue, the brasserie offers delicious salads, sandwiches, entrees (including 7 styles of moules frites), along with a great list of Belgian beer available on draught and by the bottle. Shown above is their Tuna Nicoise Salad (Salade Niçoise – Verse tonijnsalade). Seared fresh tuna served rare on a salad of potatoes and string beans, topped with a hard boiled egg wrapped with olive tapenade and an anchovy filet).
Almond
On the quieter side of the Flatiron District, Almond is located on 22nd Street between Park Ave South and Broadway. Almond is a American bistro serving local, seasonal food with French influences. Take advantage of their daily lunch prix fixe (appetizer, main course, and a choice of wine or beer) for $25.

La Pecora Bianca
This beautiful Italian restaurant has been open for a little over a year, and it gets packed with locals and tourists. Open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, they’ve got an impressive menu. You’ll find me here several days a week, grabbing a delicious salad to-go, sipping on a cappuccino while people watching, or enjoying lunch or dinner which almost always starts with their Polipo (crispy octopus, olives, chorizo, potatoes, tomatoes, almonds, pickled shallots).

Tappo
Thin crust pizza and brew. Tappo is my favorite restaurant for pizza in the area. In the warmer months, the picnic tables are set up outside the entrance.
Shake Shack
Despite the long lines, you can’t go wrong with enjoying a burger, fries and a Shack IPA in Madison Square Park.
