1609 Restaurant is a new harbour-side bar and grill located on the Hamilton Princess Bermuda’s state-of-the-art marina. The open-air venue is a hot spot for diners and party goers with #MarinaNights happening every Friday starting at 5pm.
We dined at 1609 for a sunset dinner. With views of the marina and Hamilton Harbour, the restaurant is a perfect place to unwind. Start off with a pitcher of their specialty cocktails, like the Dis-Ci-Pear made Grey Goose La Poire, fresh lime, mint, and pear cider. 1609 also offers pitchers of red and white sangria.
The menu features a selection of appetizers, soups, pizza, sandwiches, and entrees. I recommend trying the Grilled Local Wahoo sandwich with gribiche sauce and pickled tomato, $22. Gribiche is a mayonnaise-based sauce made with hard-boiled eggs instead of raw, with the addition of capers, chervil, gherkins, and Worcestershire. I couldn’t get enough of wahoo while in Bermuda, so I couldn’t help but order this sandwich on my last night on the island. The cut of fish was fresh and a good serving size that filled me up. I ordered mine with a side salad, but you could also get it with fries.
Jay loved the Seafood Cioppino Pasta with mussels, shrimp, calamari, scallops, rock fish, rich tomato broth, $39. The sauce was packed with tons of flavor, and there was plenty of seafood in the dish – enough for me to grab a few bites.
It’s a shame we only dined here once (on our last night on the island). Otherwise we would have eaten her more often. The food was excellent. Service is good – it took a while to get our order placed, but the views made up for it, somewhat. If you’re stopping by for dinner during the summer, wear sunglasses and sunscreen. The sun is still hot.
1609 is also kid friendly. Like Crown & Anchor, children under 5 staying at the hotel dine free. Our foodie enjoyed penne with pomodoro sauce.
