Strada 18 brunch

Brunch… a late morning meal eaten instead of breakfast and lunch. Typical brunch items are pancakes, eggs, bacon, and Bloody Marys. Strada 18 in SoNo has a creative Sunday brunch menu that features these items, but with an Italian twist.

The Strada Strata is a layered comfort food casserole made with eggs, potatoes, house-made Italian sausage, pancetta, Black Forest ham, bacon, spinach, mushrooms, onions, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, served with a sunny-side up egg on top. If that’s not enough, it’s also gluten-free.

If you’ve got a sweet tooth, try the Focaccia French Toast served with warm maple syrup and topped with powdered sugar or their German Apple pancake.

The Spaghetti Carbonara is a fantastic brunch dish, and one of my favorites at Strada. It’s a generous serving of al dente spaghetti cooked with Guanciale, eggs, and Parmigiano Reggiano and Pecorino Romano cheeses. Creamy, delicious, a little smokey. It pairs well with a glass of Selvagrossa Muschen Marche Rosso 2012.

If you want to try something different, order one of their brunch pizza pies, like the Eggs Florentine Pizza (Shirred Eggs, Spinach & Hollandaise Sauce), Eggs Benedict Pizza (Shirred Eggs, Black Forest Ham & Hollandaise Sauce), or keep it simple with Bacon and Eggs.

Strada 18 offers unlimited Bloody Marys and Mimosas for $15 with the purchase of any entree, but there are other delicious drinks you can order. Try a glass of sparkling wine with Crème de Cassis, a sweet, dark red liqueur made from black currants. For something more refreshing, try sparkling wine with Pear Liqueur.

If you managed to save some room for dessert, you must try the bread pudding with passion fruit coulis. The bread has a nice texture – crunchy outside, airy inside. Each bite is savory and sweet with the passion fruit sauce.

Overall, brunch at Strada 18 is fantastic. The food is delicious. Service is great.  Added plus is they are kid-friendly. If you can’t make it for brunch, stop by for dinner.
