Sunday Brunch at Parallel Post in Trumbull, CT

Parallel Post is a farm-to-table restaurant in Trumbull Marriott Merritt Parkway in Trumbull, Connecticut. This modern-American restaurant, created by James Beard nominated Chef Dean James Max, focuses on seasonal and regional cuisine. We’ve dined at Parallel Post once for dinner, and have recently returned to try their Sunday brunch.

Brunch started with a trip to the bar where we chatted with Parallel Post’s resident mixologist, Greg “Bootleg Greg” Genias, and assembled our own Bloody Mary at their Bloody Mary bar. At the bar was a spread of ingredients – from about a dozen bottles of hot sauce, celery, carrots, lemons, limes, horseradish, pepperoni, and bacon. If Bloody Marys aren’t your thing, you can also request a Champagne Float with Mango, Passion Fruit or Raspberry. Bloody Marys and floats are available ‘endless’ for $20.

On the brunch menu are plenty of delicious options using seasonal and local ingredients. Appetizers include Buttermilk Biscuit with Sausage GravyHeirloom Tomato and Strawberry Salad with Peppercress, Walnuts, and Burrata Cheese, and Whole Pan Fried Sardines and Lemon Escobeche.

Grilled Asparagus, Prosciutto, Frizzy Leeks, Manchego Cheese, Fried Egg

Parallel Post’s entrees sounds so amazing, it will be hard to pick one. We tried the Seared Crab Cakes which were presented on toasted brioche and topped with poached eggs and cajun hollandaise. Jay’s pick was the Grilled Pork Chop served with Anson Mills Bacon Grits and scrambled eggs. The chop was tender, juicy and the grits were delicious.

Spring Vegetable Frittata, Sea Salt Fries

Grilled 12oz NY Strip Steak, Herb Roasted Potato, Scrambled Eggs

Fried Chicken, Belgian Waffle, Fried Farm Egg, Mixed Berry Syrup

The best part about dining with a group is trying out almost every dessert on the menu. I ordered the Chocolate Pannacotta. Pannacotta is one of my favorite treats, and Parallel Post’s did not disappoint. Topped with salted caramel, vanilla ice cream, and toasted hazelnuts, each textured spoonful is a delight to the taste buds.

Jay is a peanut butter lover and couldn’t resist ordering the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar. This is no ordinary treat. A thick block of peanut butter as the base, topped with chocolate with candy-covered peanut butter chips (dare I say Reese’s), oatmeal whipped cream, and sweet caramel bananas.

We also tried the Valrhona Chocolate Cake sans the vanilla ice cream. Rich and delicious, this is a must for chocolate lovers.
