Post 154 is the newest restaurant to open in Westport. Set up in a historical Post Office Building, the décor is contemporary, while it still had that old feel to it from the structure’s limestone and brick façade. The food – modern American with a Latin twist. Chef Rosado divides the menu up by land (meat, veg and leaf) and sea – not by appetizers and entrees. (NOTE: at the end of September, the menu was reaarranged). We stopped by for dinner on a gorgeous mid-September evening a couple weeks after their opening. The weather was perfect for dining al fresco.
For starters we tried the Bowl of Mussels. The PEI mussels were cooked in a savory broth of chorizo, shallots, roasted garlic, and saffron wine. We really enjoyed the mussels, and would recommend it as a main course.

The Lobster and Grits was the first dish on the menu that caught our eye. Served in a large bowl is a healthy serving of creamy grits topped leeks, garlic, Tasso ham, Cajun BBQ sauce, yuca crisps, and lobster. I was a bit disappointed with the lobster. It was a tad overlooked and rubbery. The grits were okay. There were too many flavors going on in the dish.

The Hamburger Experience was made with Krystal Caves Cheddar, Pork Belly, Avocado, and Enchilada Sauce. The combo of pork belly and a burger had us sold. The meats were rich. The pork belly was perfectly cooked. If the beef patty was just a tad bit thinner this would be an awesome burger that could be eaten with your hands instead of a knife and fork.
Rocoto Pepper Ribeye |
We ordered more than enough food during our first dinner at Post 154 but still left enough room for dessert. We tried the chocolate flan and the apple empanadas. The flan was very rich and creamy. The empanadas were delicious. The crust was crunchy. The filling was not too sweet. They taste fine alone or for added flavor, dip them in some guava sauce.
What we recommend: duck confit taquitos, bowl of mussels, apple empanadas.
Post 154 is open for lunch starting October 7th and daily for dinner.
Happy Hour runs from 3-6 with menu and drink specials.
Brunch plans are in the works.
