This past weekend we visited the charming city of Newport, Rhode Island. The main itinerary was to check out the mansions and explore, but it wound up being more of a foodie trip.
Arriving in the early afternoon, we dropped off our luggage at Hotel Viking, a historic hotel located on Bellevue Avenue. We originally had plans to grab a sandwich and eat them on the lawns of one of the mansions. We came across Peaceable Market, grabbed a big bag of Cape Cod chips and a couple sandwiches and were on our way.
Just from visiting one mansion, we needed a pick-me-up so we enjoyed a hot cup of the Midnight Express made with Ghiradelli chocolate, espresso and coffee at Empire Tea and Coffee.
For dinner, it was hard to secure a table earlier than 9pm at some of the more popular restaurants, like 22 Bowens, Clarke Cooke House, and Black Pearl. We eventually wound up at The Mooring for a great seafood dinner.
The trip ended with a fabulous brunch and extra cocktails at Castle Hill Inn, a must if you’re in Newport.
Stay tuned for posts on the restaurants we visited.
