Who says you can’t enjoy a great meal at a steakhouse in 45 minutes? A couple weeks ago The Capital Grille launched its $18 Spring “Plates” menu, giving guests the ability customize their lunch, choosing from nine “plates” offerings – three soups or salads, three sandwiches and three sides – all for $18. This menu was also designed to get busy patrons out the door in about 45 minutes. The Spring “Plates” menu features three new items fit for the season: Asparagus Soup, Shrimp and Piquillo Peppers with Crisp Bomba Rice and Grilled Spring Vegetables.
Asparagus Soup |
We stopped by The Capital Grille during our lunch break to check it out. I tried all three new additions to the menu. The asparagus soup was rich and creamy, and had thin slices of asparagus on top. If you like asparagus, I recommend giving it a try. The other items on the plates menu are also delicious: clam chowder and field greens salad.
For the main course, I tried the Shrimp and Piquillo Peppers with Crisp Bomba Rice which was served on a small cast iron skillet. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and was seasoned well. I also enjoyed the bomba rice that stuck to the skillet. Reminds me of the crunchy bits of rice I love munching on (or even fight with my friends to get) when I have bibimbap (Korean mixed rice), paella, or arroz con gandules (rice with pigeon peas). As a side dish, I chose the spring vegetables which were grilled perfectly.

An alternative items to try are the mini tenderloin sandwiches (one of my favorite lunch time items) or the lobster roll. I recommend ordering the truffle fries to pair with these items. Though, you can’t go wrong with the French Green Beans.

If you have room for dessert, and or just want to end off the meal on a sweet note, share one with a friend. Breaking away from my usuals, the Crème Brûlée or the flourless chocolate espresso cake, I tried the Strawberries Capital Grille. Served in a bowl are juicy strawberries, vanilla ice cream and a ruby port and Grand Marnier sauce. It’s a savory treat that won’t make you feel guilty eating it. Quite refreshing for the spring.

As with the previous Winter plates menu, I enjoyed the Spring plates menu. It’s an excellent deal for $18.
