Uncle Moe’s Burrito & Taco Shop is my go-to spot for great tacos and tamales in the Flatiron District area. With all the taco chains in the area, I suggest you stop here for cheap, and better quality food. The restaurant is pretty basic. You can even see the kitchen in the back. There’s a good amount of seating here, even when you hit lunch hour. There are several bright green picnic tables and benches, along with some two person tables and chairs.
On the menu are the usual things: tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, and tamales. My favorite tacos (probably half of the list) are the:
- Barbacoa – slow-cooked shredded beef
- Carne Asada – marinated char-grilled skirt steak
- Chile Colorado – slow cooked pork in spicy sauce
- Achiote Chicken – orange juice, vinegar & achiote
- Baja Fish – big chunks of fried fish. If you see it available, order it!
The tamales are also great. The beef tamales are the best. They also offer a variety of burritos, which are huge (and heavy)! You’ll likely need a nice long nap after eating one.

Don’t forget to stop by the salsa area and load up on as many salsas as you wish. They’ve got lids if you’re taking your meal to go.
If you’ve saved room for dessert, I recommend the Rice Pudding Empanadas, $2.75. The empanadas are deep fried turnovers dusted with cinnamon sugar. Inside is a firm filling of delicious rice pudding. Not too sweet, but very satisfying. You might have to share it with someone else.
