Darien: Burgers, Shakes & Fries

The second location of Burgers, Shakes & Fries opened in Darien, CT in December 2010. The first location is Byram. The menu is simple: burgers, shakes, fries, hot dogs, salads, and, at this location, wine and beer.

There are 3 kinds of burgers: simple (1/3 lb of ground beef), double (2/3 lb), and veggie burgers which are served on buttered toasted white bread. They’ve also got chicken sandwiches. We ordered Simple Burgers with pickles, raw onions, and hot peppers. The flavors of the burger was great. Too bad lettuce isn’t on the menu of fixin’s. I think the buttered toast was taking it too far. Silly me forgot to order it plain, if that was even an option. Have I been spoiled by Shake Shack’s awesome juicy burgers? Maybe.

We ordered large fries. The sizes on the wall are deceiving – you get way more than what can fill a large cup if you eat your meal at the restaurant. I think a small size is enough for two people to share. The fries were pretty good, and very crunchy. Unfortunately, the fries were overseasoned and too salty for my liking.

Shakes come in vanilla, chocolate, black & white, neapolitan, coffee and the daily flavor. “Malt” it for an extra .57¢.

I also ordered a Black & White Milkshake – one of my favorite flavors. BSF’s shake was probably the best milkshake I’ve ever had. A black & white is a mix of both chocolate and vanilla. BSF presents in a cute way (shown right) – a base layer of chocolate, topped with vanilla, and another layer of chocolate. Normally it’s served mixed together. It’s thick, sweet and with the right consistency so you can drink it out of the straw.

The beer selection is great and you have the option of getting cans or on tap. The list includes Porkslap Pale Ale, Rheingold, and Allagash White. Not a beer drinker? They’ve got wine too. And of course, soda, water, iced tea and other non-alcoholic beverages as well.
