A new Doughnut Plant in NYC

Rose Petal Doughnut

On Valentine’s Day, the Doughnut Plant (Twitter handle: @DoughnutPlantNY) opened its second location in NYC in the historic Chelsea Hotel, in Chelsea. I first had the Doughnut Plant donuts back when Oren’s Coffee Roast had a coffee shop in Grand Central Terminal. The doughnuts are pretty good, although a bit too sweet for my liking.

Don’t expect the usual doughnuts you see at other shoppes. You can get doughnuts in the shape of squares, circles, and hearts (yes, for Valentine’s Day).

Today, my boss bought 2 boxes of doughnuts for the office. I, of course, had to try as many as I could. So I played a little game of “Guess the doughnut flavor” – I got most of the flavors right, along with a nice sugar rush.

I had a Rose Petal Doughnut, pictured right. And, yes, it tasted like a rose. (I did have rose-infused food before). Again, way too much sugar for me, so I just left a broken heart on the table for my colleagues to devour.

The ginger doughnut is another delightful twist of a doughnut flavor. It looked like a regular glazed doughnut, but left lingering notes of a spicy cinnamon, and zinginess of ginger. Ginger is tough for me to describe, but if you like ginger, you should try out this flavor.

Other flavors sold at the Doughnut Plant – Valrhona chocolate, peanut butter & jelly, and coconut.

I’ll be back for more.
