Restaurant Week Winter 2009: Sushi Samba Park

A little twist on sushi awaits you at Sushi Samba, located on 245 Park Ave. South (19th & 20th Sts.). The food and ambiance is a fusion of Japanese and Brazilian cultures. Made popular by the show, Sex and the City, many people flock to this trendy spot. Cocktails, sushi, churassco – it’s all here.

Now, the location on Park Avenue is a bit cramped. I felt like my table was sitting on top of my neighbor’s. I recommend dining at their Seventh Avenue location. The food was pretty good; Service ok.

Dinner menu $35 (varies – check the site before you dine)

I went for the palmito & mango salad, sushi assortment, and mochi. The salad was excellent (dressing, veggies, presentation) – enough for two people. The sushi assortment – your usual selection of ordinary sushi accompanied with 2 special rolls – with “crunchies” (as how my waitress described it). Mochi – I thought it came out of the freezer section at the Asian Mart I go to.

Now for the drink, I went with a pisco sour. Don’t let the ingredient – egg whites – disgust you. The drink it tasty – a little sweet; a little sour, but it’s worth a shot.
